Just Back from: Ireland

Ross and I were able to sneak in a short visit to Ireland earlier this month to scout for a future tour we are planning to the Emerald Isle. February is probably not the best time to travel to Ireland (cold, rainy), however because it is the low season and there are so few tourists it is really a great time for us to meet with hotels, private drivers, and private estate owners.

How We Traveled: We flew Delta from JFK to Dublin, with no problems or delays either way. Uncrowded airports are a perk of low season travel! Once in Ireland, we rented a car to get around the countryside. In Dublin, we used our feet and took a taxi to the airport the day we left.

Where We Went: We covered a lot of ground! First we went south to Cashel, visiting several castles, gardens, and historical sites along the way. Then we drove up to Northern Ireland, to the area just south of Belfast. We toured several private and public estates there before making our way back down to Dublin. We only had one full day in Dublin, but we made the most of it! We needed to update our Dublin guide, so between the two of us Ross and I visited six museums, many many shops, several great new restaurants, and a new hotel.

What We Bought: This was mostly a working trip, but as many of you know, Ross and I never visit a country without purchasing something. I splurged on a new Barbour coat the day we arrived and we both went a little crazy at a great woolen shop in Dublin (Cleo…it’s fabulous).

How we finish a long 12-hour day of scouting for future tours.
