Just Back from: Paris, Bordeaux & The Dordogne
Wingback Travel Private Group Tours
The Sainte-Chapelle (Holy Chapel) in Paris was built in the 1240s by Louis IX to house his Passion relics. On a sunny day, the stained glass windows are absolutely stunning.
Our first tour of 2024 is in the books!
Laura just returned from leading a private group trip to Paris, Bordeaux, and the Dordoge. We had a small mother-daughter group and Laura put together an itinerary tailored to their needs and interests in Gothic architecture and medieval France.
We started in Paris, where Laura led guided visits to the Rodin Museum, the Musee de l’Orangerie, and the Sainte-Chapelle. We also checked in on progress of Notre-Dame. After the catastrophic fire inn 2019, the spire has finally been reconstructed. The church is still covered in scaffolding and it seems a bit ambitious that the rebuilding and restoration will be complete before Paris hosts the summer 2024 Olympics
Laura Leeker, founder of Wingback Travel, leading a group tour at the Rodin Museum in Paris. Laura holds a PhD in Art History.
Laura also led our group through the Orangerie Museum in Paris, which houses Monet’s series of waterlily paintings.
Our group then traveled in first class aboard the high-speed TGV train from Paris to Bordeaux, a journey that takes just two hours. From here, we set off for the Dordogne.
The Dordoge is a semi-rural area in southwestern France between Toulouse and Bordeaux. With its hearty food scene (this is the land of duck and foie gras) and historical treasure (prehistoric cave art, medieval bastide towns, and some of France’s finest castles and gardens), the Dordogne is a rich area of exploration for travelers.

The medieval Chateau de Beynac, built in the 12th century for the barons of Beynac.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch at this charming restaurant in the Dordogne.
We absolutely loved the gardens at Marqueyssac. There are over 150,000 boxwoods planted here!
A stop at Rocamadour, a major pilgrimage site for medieval travelers on their way to Santiago de Compostella in Spain.
We also visited the Chateau des Milandes, built in 1489 and later the home of Josephine Baker.
We loved our stay at this charming hotel in the Dordogne.
A Wingback Travel trip would not be complete without a little shopping! Bordeaux is a wonderful city for antiques shoppers.
